Professional Background

I have been a professor of physics at Rollins College since 1970. I received my Bachelor of Science from Rollins in 1964, and was awarded a Masters and a Ph.D. in theoretical atomic physics from Purdue University in 1966 and 1970, respectively. I have been a visiting staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory , a consultant to Livermore National Laboratory , a visiting fellow at the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics, and I am a fellow of the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics.

I teach courses in mechanics, quantum mechanics, principles of physics, general physics, modern physics and physics for non-science majors. I perform research in theoretical atomic scattering theory in support of the U.S. effort to develop controlled nuclear fusion as an energy source. My research is carried out on a 26-processor computer cluster in my laboratory as well as the IBM SP RS/6000 massively parallel computer at the National Energy Research Supercomputer Center. It is supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Energy .
