The introductory physics laboratory at Rollins College includes a networked computer system consisting of a fourteen 1.0 GHz Pentium III desk-top computers running Windows 2000. The laboratory also includes a high-speed networked printer, and we often utilize a color computer projector for laboratory and classroom activities. All computer stations have an analog-to-digital converter which allows students to capture experimental data for detailed online graphical and numerical analysis. Each machine has the complete Microsoft Office suite of programs, Mathcad mathematical software, specialized physics software, and full Internet access. All students enrolled in physics courses are given an account on these machines and have full use of the laboratory for physics and other academic pursuits.
Shown below are students and faculty employing this facility to study the motion of an accelerated object on an air track as a test of Newton's Second Law of motion.
